Design Associate & Coordinator

  • Full Time, 32 to 40-hour week (Typically 8:00 am to 5:00 pm M-F)

  • Work with Chagrin River Company’s (CRC) president to establish a project’s preliminary design budget
  • Attend design contract meetings with CRC’s president and home owners
  • Work with CRC’s president and homeowner to develop projects design, including shopping with the home owner and developing design boards for the project
  • Using Vectorworks (the design software CRC uses) and other computer applications to develop design drawings
  • Develop project book to include all materials needed for the project
  • Supply all drawings to subtrades for preliminary bids
  • Develop a job book for job handoff
  • Throughout the ongoing selection process work with homeowners to help assure their selections meet their and the project’s needs, the homeowners sense of design, work well with the other selections and keep track of the selection costs and budget, alerting the company president if selections are exceeding discussed budgets.
  • Pre-order and coordinate the logistics for all materials for project (tile, cabinetry, granite selections, etc..) so they will arrive on a specific date depending on job status. If project schedule or delivery dates change, coordinate the changes.
  • Maintain project folder to include schedule, materials, client selections, and materials budgets, and attend regular client meetings
  • Support project manager and lead carpenters by coordinating schedules and material ordering/delivering
  • Continuously communicate with the client to ensure satisfaction. Alert the appropriate CRC staff if there is a problem.
  • Participate in post-construction meetings to determine strong and weak areas to promote continuous improvement
  • Others as may be required from time to time


  • High school graduate
  • 2 or 4-year college preferred or specific relevant industry training
  • To the extent needed for the position relevant education, training and/or experience in the in the following:
  • Interior Design
  • Interior Architecture
  • Architectural Design
  • High level of design and artistic ability
  • Overall experience/interest in the construction field, preferably residential
  • Skilled in working with Vectorworks*, CAD, Microsoft Office, Email and the ability to learn other software as needed. (*if not proficient in Vectorworks will need to be able to become expert quickly.)
  • Competent with technology
  • Good to excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate what the end design will be to our clients


  • Prefer 3 or more years relevant experience in residential construction/remodeling
  • Willing to consider less if demonstrates abilities in skills and qualities needed

  • Must provide own transportation for local travel needed to carry out duties. (To and from office, clients’ homes, showrooms, suppliers, etc.)
